Unrestrained Driver Dies in Single Vehicle Crash Near Abbeville

A 20 year old is dead after a crash North of Abbeville Saturday night. Troopers say around 10:00 pm, Alyssa Gibson of Rayne was driving a 1997 Mercury Sable north on US 167 when she traveled off the right side of the road, struck a ditch embankment, then a tree. Troopers say Gibson was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car. She was pronounced dead by the Vermilion Parish Coroner.
It is unknown if impairment is a factor in the crash, but toxicology samples have been taken and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for testing.
The crash remains under investigation.
