The number of teachers leaving the Lafayette Parish School System has increased nearly threefold from last school year to this school year, a KATC investigation has found.
From August to of March, 134 teachers resigned from LPSS. That is more than triple last year when 39 teachers resigned in the same time period.
Combined, the number of teachers who have resigned or retired totaled 198 from August to March, up from 59 during the same time period last year. Most teachers are leaving from elementary and middle schools. In fact, retirements and resignations from middle schools have quadrupled.
Lafayette Middle School has seen the most teacher resignations at 11. Five teachers have retired from Milton Elementary/Middle School, more than any other school.
