NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The University of New Orleans has named James E. Payne as the school's new provost and vice president for academic affairs.
Payne most recently served as regional vice chancellor for academic affairs and research at the polytechnic campus of the University of South Florida System. There he oversaw a $21.2 million academic affairs budget and personnel matters including recruitment, hiring, promotion and tenure of faculty. He also spent eight years at Illinois State University, serving as interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from 2009-2011.
UNO President Peter J. Fos said Wednesday that Payne's appointment will begin Jan. 1. He succeeds Louis V. Paradise who will retire in December after more than 30 years at UNO. Paradise has been interim provost since August 2011.
