The Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team is set to close out the 2013 spring home season on Saturday at 2 p.m. as they host Jackson State in part of a doubleheader with the men's squad at Cajun Courts.
It will also be senior day for Louisiana (12-10), as the Cajuns' Hannah Appleyard will make her final appearance at home during the regular season. Appleyard has a 7-6 record this season playing primarily at the No.6 position.
"It has been a pleasure to see Hannah mature and grow as a young lady," head coach Greg Harkins said. "Hannah has always been a hard worker and her presence at practices and matches has lifted the team. Her pleasant smile and lighthearted ways have been comforting, and I think as a senior she has done a lot to help the young girls transition to the college game. We will miss her contributions to the team."
Louisiana comes into the match having gone 2-3 in its last five matches including a 6-1 victory over conference opponent Arkansas State.
Junior Sandra Ahlqvist leads the team with a 12-7 record, while Nicole Breaux and Melissa Burckhartt each have 10 wins on the season. Burckhartt and freshman Juliette Clement pace the squad in doubles play with a 13-3 record as the pair is ranked 79th in the nation by the ITA.
"I'm looking for the team to close out our home streak on a strong note as we get closer to the conference championship," Harkins added.
Admission to the match is free. Fans unable to make it out to Cajun Courts can follow the match through live stats and video on RaginCajuns.com. For updates and info follow the women's tennis team on twitter @CajunW10ns.
