UL Volleyball Falls To Texas State In SBC Opener

SAN MARCOS, Texas - Kaylee Nemeth recorded six kills to lead the Louisiana volleyball team, but the combination of Amari Deardorff and Shelby Vas Matt proved to be too much as Texas State defeated the Ragin' Cajuns, 25-15, 26-24, 25-12, in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both teams Friday at Strahan Coliseum.

Louisiana (10-5, 0-1 Sun Belt) will return to action on Saturday when it travels to face UT Arlington in a 7 p.m. contest at College Park Center. Live statistics and a live video stream (subscription required) will be available on the Volleyball schedule page at

Deardorff recorded a match-high 13 kills and hit .440 at the net at Texas State (11-5, 1-0 Sun Belt) won in its Sun Belt debut after competing last season in the Western Athletic Conference. Vas Matt added 11 kills and hit .375 for the Bobcats while Caylin Mahoney dished out 34 assists.

As a team, Texas State hit .297 for the match and held the Ragin' Cajuns to a .124 clip. Andrea Hole, who led Louisiana with 22 assists, added five kills and hit .417 (5-0-12) for the Ragin' Cajuns.
