UL Tennis Tabbed With 2nd Mid-Major Recruiting Class

After being honored with the 16th rated recruiting class in the country, the Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team has added yet another honor as the 2012-13 signing class was rated the second best mid-major recruiting class in the country TennisRecruiting.net.

"I am very happy with this incoming class and with their potential we have an opportunity to do some special things here over the next several years," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "Our goal over the next three years is quite simply to win the Sun Belt Conference. This class will give us an excellent chance to achieve that goal."

Edgar Lopez (Mexico City, Mexico), Hunter and Yates Johnson (New Braunfels, Texas), Hunter Goertz (Austin, Texas), Cameron Wahlborg (Baton Rouge, La.) and Jake Wynan (Canberra, South Australia) comprise the 2012-13 signing class. Goertz, Wahlborg and Wynan each signed in the early recruiting period, while Lopez and the Johnson twins were late additions for the Cajuns.

"This is by far the most talented class we have brought in to UL," Jeffrey added. "We have signed two blue chippers, two five star standouts, a four star and a three star prospect. We also have recruited the best players from our region which is not always easy to do. Having three players from Texas and one from Louisiana will hopefully help our classes down the road. It shows that the top regional players are buying into our program, which we are proud of".

The Cajuns who finished the 2012 spring season with a 15-8 record return five of seven starters to go along with the new additions. UL ended the season ranked 71st in the nation in the ITA Men's Division I Poll, marking the first time since 2007.

"The Sun Belt is at an all time high with four teams inside the top 71 nationally," Jeffrey stated. "To be able to compete and stay with these teams we need to keep pushing harder for more visibility so our programs can be seen by the top recruits nationally year after year".
