UL students pass referendum, will soon see transportation improvements

Thanks to a referendum passed by University of Louisiana (UL) students, the university's transportation system will soon be getting an overhaul.

Transportation Director Cheri Soileau said that, by the end of 2015, the oldest of UL's 11 full-sized buses will be replaced, at least a couple of covered bus stops will be constructed, and a new shopping shuttle service for students could be initiated.

Soileau said that she is pleased that the student body has provided her department with a vote of confidence to make the necessary improvements to the university's transportation system.

Students, with a majority vote during Monday and Tuesday's referendum, approved a $50 fee per semester, beginning in Fall 2014.

The current $25 fee will be doubled to $50 for the Fall and Spring semesters. The same fee for the summer semesters now increases from $12.50 to $25.
