Saturday is graduation for the students at the University of Louisiana - Lafayette. For some, however, it is also the day they will play in the biggest game in decades for UL. Graduating seniors on the Ragin' Cajuns football team will have a special graduation day in New Orleans. On the Friday night before the New Orleans Bowl, these seniors will report to the Canal Street Marriott hotel to receive their diploma and celebrate the end of their college career. Dr. Joseph Savoie will present their diplomas with each player dressed in traditional cap and gown.
"It's something you can't take for granted," Cajuns coach Mark Hudspeth said. "You know, these guys worked hard for four, five years to make it - and we definitely want that to be a big part of their experience."
All other UL graduates will have their normal graduation on Saturday. Officials at the university recognize the importance of the big NOLA game and have already moved graduation to an earlier time for those who are traveling to New Orleans to support the Ragin' Cajuns right after the ceremony.
