LAFAYETTE, La. -- Andre Huval, who has been the anchor of the Ragin' Cajuns offensive line the last two seasons, is one of 17 repeat members on the 2013 Rimington Trophy Pre-season Watch List. The award is given annually to the top center in the country by the National College Football Awards Association.
The 44-player list was released by the NCFA late on Tuesday.
"After the season that Andre had last year, we expected him to be a member of the Rimington Trophy Watch List again this year," Louisiana head coach Mark Hudspeth said. "Andre not only elevated his level of play last year, but you could see him develop into one of the leaders on the offense."
Huval, 6-1, 285-pound senior from Scott, La., earned second team All-Sun Belt honors last year after starting all 13 games and playing all but 12 of the offensive snaps during the year. He led the offensive line that allowed just 13 sacks during the year.
A graduate of St. Thomas More High, Huval played a key role in the Cajuns setting a school record by compiling 5,914 yards of total offense last year. He worked with quarterback Terrance Broadway to set the school season record for total offense with 3,611 yards (769 rushing, 2,842 passing).
The Rimington Trophy is named after former Nebraska All-American Dave Rimington, who is the only player in college football history to receive the Outland Trophy twice, doing so in both 1981 and 1982. It has been handed out every season since 2000, helping to raise more than $2 million for the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and has raised over $100 million for CF Research. Esiason and Rimington were teammates together with the Cincinnati Bengals from 1984-87.
