It was a great night for the Cajuns' home-opener and just as good of an outcome on Saturday.

The Cajuns beating Nicholls state State 38-to-21, but before that, KATC'S Chris Welty caught up with die hard fans tailgating for the home-opener.

With the fight song in the air and the sizzle of the BBQ pit, you know UL tailgating is officially here.

"It's the best party in Louisiana baby. If you ain't at this tailgate, you're missing out, this is the party in Lafayette, in Louisiana!" said Mike Prejean.

"Tailgating is just really fun, you get to hang around and you eat really good food, and at the game you get to cheer on the Ragin Cajuns!! Geaux UL!!"

Fans not only were excited about pre-game activities, but also the new season and the beginning of the Mark Hudspeth era.

"The electricity, you can feel it in the air, you can feel it! look at everybody, everybody has a new bounce in their step. cajuns are here and we're here to stay baby," said Prejean.

As fans were leaving Cajun Field you could sense the excitement as the Cajuns are coming off their second win of the season. Coach Hudspeth wanted 30,000 fans to pack into the stadium, but fell short of that goal with just over 28,000 fans packing in.
