Beautiful weather tomorrow for a football game. The city is painted red and the students are already out. It's Ragin Cajun time in Lafayette!
Now there's something new this year, for the first time, the freshman class at UL will run onto Cajun Field right before kickoff showcasing school spirit.
As first year students at UL sit in class, they anxiously wait to experience their first college football game at home and making it even more memorable the freshman class gets to run on Cajun Field just before kick-off for what they are calling the "Red Run".
"My first reaction was oh my God, oh my God, we get to touch the field! I don't know what to expect but I'm looking forward to a great time and making connections and just having a fun time running on the field. It's a once in a lifetime experience," said Landon Jackson.
"I was pretty excited because that's like unheard of where I'm from because no one storms the field but they're actually letting freshman run on the field before the game which is pretty exciting for me, " said Peter Tarka.
Dana Bekurs who is spear heading the run says before the band performs their pre-game show, they'll run through the tunnel onto the field, cheering and screaming for their Ragin Cajuns and then take their seats.
Bekurs says it's just an opportunity for students to engage.
"We want to create opportunities for them to meet other freshman students, to create bonds, create connects, to create memories. This is a wonderful memory, only freshman will do this and we're hoping to start this as a new tradition," said Bekurs.
The Red Run is optional and only for the freshman class. The new tradition will happen at every first home football game, so it really is a once in a life opportunity.
If you would like to participate, Bekurs say students should meet at Gate E and their school I.D will be scanned.
