The University of Louisiana at Lafayette and United Blood Services are partnering to conduct a back to school blood drive on August 28 and 29 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in front of Dupré Library and near Zeus and August 30 from 9:30a.m.-2 p.m. at the Back to School Block Party. The drive is being sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Student Orientation Staff (SOS).
Donors will receive (while supplies last):
A "Bleed Red" t-shirt
A coupon for a free chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A
A free bowling pass from Acadiana Lanes
All donors are also entered to win a pair of Saints tickets for the September 22nd game!!
Also at this drive, donations are being accepted in honor of long-time UL Lafayette employee Carolyn Broussard. She has been battling cancer since 2008 and recently underwent a stem cell transplant. Donors should simply let the United Blood Services technician know that they would like their donation credited toward Broussard.
"We are happy to be able to help one of UL Lafayette's own with this drive" said Donor Recruitment Representative Anne Laughlin. "You never know when a person you care for might need blood. Carolyn's situation makes the importance of keeping a safe and ample blood supply hit close to home."
The goal for this drive is 125 pints. United Blood Services supplies 50 South Louisiana hospitals in 32 parishes with 250 pints of lifesaving blood daily. You can make an appointment to donate at www.bloodhero.com and use the sponsor code: ullafayette.
Anyone who is at least 16 years old, weighs at least 110 pounds, and has a valid photo ID is eligible to donate. Parental permission is required for 16 year olds and certain height and weight requirements apply for those 17-22. All donors must pass the vital signs and health history examinations given prior to donation.
Donors can now complete part of the interview in the convenience of their own home or office by doing their interview online the day of their drive. To do this, donors should go to www.unitedbloodsystems.org and click on the "Health History Questionnaire" then bring a hard copy of the printed ticket with them to their donation. The health history must be completed the same day as the donation; it cannot be completed a day or two ahead of time.
