Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Athletics Department and United Way of Acadiana jointly announced Thursday a partnership to share ticket revenue and spread holiday cheer for the men's basketball game with Duquesne on Saturday, Dec. 22 at the Cajundome.
All tickets available for purchase (100, 200 and 300 level) are being sold for a special discounted price of $5.
The proceeds of the tickets sales will be split, benefitting both the United Way of Acadiana and Ragin' Cajuns Athletics.
"As a way to show our appreciation for our local community, our department places a strong emphasis on community service" Director of Athletics Scott Farmer remarked. "Whether it is the food drive that our athletes participated in earlier this week, hospital visits or reading to children in schools, we try to show our appreciation as often as possible.
"Given the conflict that arose with our football team's appearance in the New Orleans Bowl we quickly came up with the idea to partner with the largest and most respected charity in Acadiana giving us another avenue to ‘give back' to our community. "
Acadiana area companies are encouraged to purchase tickets and donate them to the United Way, which will then distribute them to various youth and family groups under their umbrella.
"When I look at the opportunity to partner with UL Athletics for a basketball game, it really is a ‘slam dunk' for us and the community," said Margaret Trahan, President/CEO of United Way of Acadiana. "This will be a family friendly event that is affordable and at the same time allow people to give back as part of the spirit of Christmas through the United Way of Acadiana.
"Our theme is ‘Live United' so we see this as UL, United Way and the people of Acadiana living united for a common good," Trahan added. "The monies collected from this partnership will go toward helping to ensure that we have a strong ‘safety net' that people can meet their needs in times of situation crisis, that families become more financially stable and that we see children graduate on time from high school...these are the ingredients of a good life and the best way to advance the common good in Acadiana."
The Duquesne contest marks Louisiana's final home game prior to Christmas and serves as the final non-conference contest of the 2012-13 season.
