United Blood Services today is announcing a critical appeal for type O negative blood. As the community blood provider for this area and stewards of the community blood supply, maintaining an adequate supply of all blood types is imperative. O Negative blood types are the universal donor. O Negative can be transfused to any patient with any blood type, however, only O Negative can be transfused to an O Negative patient. With only 6% of the population having O Negative blood, it is considered a rare blood type and always in demand.
