Two Men Arrested in Sugar Cane Field After Man Tries to Stop Them After Burglarizing His Home

According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon, two Abbeville men have been arrested and booked into the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center each on 1ct. of Simple Burglary with additional charges pending. (No Bond at present time)

Sheriff Couvillon says that shortly after 3:00 pm on 10/11/10 the Sheriff's Office received a phone call from an individual, stating that as his great nephew returned from school, he (nephew) noticed a suspicious vehicle at his residence located off of La. Hwy 338.

Sheriff Couvillon further stated that the Uncle unsuccessfully attempted to block in the vehicle as it was leaving the residence, but was able to follow the suspect vehicle as it fled, and noticed when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve at the intersection of La.Hwy 338 and Adier Rd. and crashed.

Sheriff Couvillon says that once the subjects crashed the vehicle, they fled on foot into a nearby sugar cane field, and Patrol personnel and Detectives were able to set up a perimeter around the cane field and after a brief search located Lucian Jackson b/m dob 7/26/86 716 Hayes Street Abbeville, LA and Lorenso Robinson b/m dob 12/09/81 of 401 Dutel Street Abbeville, La. who were taken into custody without incident.

Sheriff's Couvillon says that items stolen from the residence were recovered in the vehicle along with items which may have been stolen from another residence.

Sheriff Couvillon says that the investigation is ongoing and charges may be forthcoming

Finally, Sheriff Couvillon says that he applauds the effort of the young man for doing all of the right things in this situation, as well the efforts of the uncle.
