Two killed, two injured in 4th of July crash

A crash last night near scott has left two people dead and two others injured.

The accident took place around 9:15 P. M. near the corner of Cameron Street near Fieldspan Road.

State police say 50-year-old Greg Picard of Scott crossed the center line and crashed into two cars traveling behind each other. The first vehicle, driven by 55-year-old Paul Francis of Scott, was hit in the rear and overturned. The second vehicle, driven by 55-year-old Darleen Richard of Lafayette, was hit head-on.

Picard and Richard died at the scene. A passenger in Francis' car, 53-year-old Connie Celestine, was ejected. She was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Francis suffered only minor injuries.

Troopers say Picard and Celestine were not wearing seatbelts.

Troopers do not know if alcohol played a role in the crash. Toxicology samples were taken at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
