Victim Spoils Armed Robbery Attempt

On November 24, 2009, at approximately 10:40 pm, a male and female victim was walking through Girard Park when they were approached by two black males wearing black hooded sweat shirts. One of the suspects pointed a handgun at the victims and demanded their money. The male victim pushed back on the suspect and immediately began calling 911. Both suspects began to back up and fled in opposite directions. One of the suspects, Shal'jaup Williams (19) of Lafayette, was captured by a Lafayette Police Department K-9 Unit near the intersection of South College Road and Girard Park. The second suspect, only described as a black male, was not located. Shal'jaup Williams was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery. The victims were not injured during the incident.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the 2nd suspect to contact the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
