A two vehicle crash in Iberia Parish results in two deaths. Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated the crash on LA Highway 85 near LA Highway 674 around 5:30 pm Saturday. According to Troopers, 24-year-old Joel Morvant of New Iberia, was driving a 1994 Mazda 929 south on LA Highway 85. Morvant was attempting to pass another southbound vehicle when he struck a northbound 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 54-year-old Gregory Landry of Lafayette, head-on.
Morvant, who was restrained, died as a result of his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner. A passenger in his vehicle, 27-year-old Cody Snyder of New Iberia, was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Landry's vehicle caught fire after the crash and Troopers are still working to determine if he was restrained. Landry was also pronounced dead at the scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner.
It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash; however, toxicology samples have been obtained and will be submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
