Two Children Found Unconscious in Locked Vehicle

Press Release: On July 3, 2010, Acadian Ambulance responded to the 200 block of Smalley Rd., in reference to two small children that were found unconscious.

It was reported to the Carencro Police Department by medical personnel, that the two (2- year old) boys were transported to the hospital, after they were discovered in a locked vehicle at the residence.

The children let themselves out of the house at approximately 12:00pm on July 3, while the mother was sleeping, and entered into the vehicle. Once inside, the children were unable to exit.

One child was transported in an unconscious state, as the other responded quickly.

Both children have been released from Lafayette General Medical Center.

The mother, Markeitha Blackwell, was arrested and charged with (2 counts) of LA.R.S. 14:93.2.3- Second Degree Cruelty to Juveniles. She was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center awaiting bond.
