After a shopping trip yesterday, two women were putting groceries in the car when they were robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of a Wal Mart in the 700 block of Oddfellows Road in Crowley, say police.
Crowley Police say the two females were approached while placing groceries in their vehicles. Police say the victims observed a black Chevrolet Tahoe approach them and then observed two black males exit the vehicle. During the incident, one of the suspects produced a handgun and demanded the victims' purses, say police. Both victims complied and the suspects re-entered the black Tahoe and fled the scene and were seen entering Interstate 10 traveling east bound by a witness, say police. Neither victim was physically injured, according to detectives.
"Our officers worked with the information they had on scene and with the assistance of Duson Police were able to get the suspects stopped and in custody in Duson" stated Chief of Police K.P. Gibson.
Police say they located the two suspects and also found the purses which were stolen during the armed robbery and the firearm that was used. The suspects were booked into the Lafayette Parish Jail, but have since been transferred to the Acadia Parish Jail on the charge of Armed Robbery and Resisting an Officer, according to Police.
Police arrested Jacoby Solomon, 23 of Lafayette and Demontre Eave, 28 of Franklin.
"I would like to express my thanks to our officers and the officers from the Duson Police Department for resolving this matter so quickly. I also would like to remind all citizens that parking lot robberies / crimes do not only happen during the holidays. Please be careful and aware of your surroundings" stated Chief Gibson.
