Two Louisiana men, including one from St. Mary Parish, are behind bars for allegedly falsifying a boat sale.
According to agents with the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, 19-year-old Tyler Chenvert of Pierre Part and 48-year-old Lawrence Toups, Jr., of Berwick, are both charged with injuring public records. Chenvert is also charged with forgery and felony theft. Toups faces an additional charge of filing false public documents.
Agents say Chenvert forged his signature on a bill of sale for a boat he sold Toups in August. Officials say the boat was registered to the grandfather, who died last year. According to investigators, Toups admitted he knew the signature was forged, but he still went through with the purchase and filed the forged bill of sale with the state.
Chenvert faces 25 years in jail. Toups faces a sentence of 10 years behind bars.
