Two Acadiana students receive culinary scholarships

Two students who attended high school in the Acadiana area were awarded scholarships by the Louisiana Restaurant Association Education Foundation to further their culinary and hospitality-related studies at a post-secondary institution.

In total, the LRAEF, through its Scholarship Fund, awarded $61,000 in scholarships to 30 students. The students were presented with their awards at the 2014 LRAEF Five Star Futures Gala Aug. 2 at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside.

The LRAEF Scholarship Fund was created in 2009 to support the continuing education of ProStart® students, industry educators and other students pursuing careers in culinary and hospitality-related fields.

Since its inception, more than $200,000 has been awarded to deserving students through two scholarships funds. The LRAEF/NRAEF ProStartScholarship is awarded to students who have achieved the nationally-recognized ProStart Certificate of Achievement.

The LRAEF General Hospitality Scholarship is awarded to students of any age, educational or professional background who are accepted into or enrolled in a qualifying post-secondary degree-seeking program.

This year's Acadiana-area recipients received the LRAEF General HospitalityScholarship. They are:

Nicole Biddy, graduate of Gueydan High School, attending Louisiana Culinary Institute (second year recipient)
Keiyana Price, graduate of New Iberia Senior High, attending Louisiana Culinary Institute (second year recipient)

Also, the LRAEF extends special recognition to all LRA chapters that support ProStart and the LRAEF through its various philanthropic activities throughout the year.
