Tulane University says members of the American Society of Engineering Education have chosen the dean of Tulane's School of Science and Engineering as their president-elect.
A Tulane news release says Nicholas J. Altiero has been active in the organization for years and currently serves as the chairman of the organization's Engineering Deans Council.
Altiero joined the faculty at Tulane University in 2000 as dean of the School of Engineering. In 2006, following Hurricane Katrina, Tulane was restructured and Altiero was named inaugural dean of the integrated School of Science and Engineering.
Altiero begins his term as ASEE president-elect in June and becomes president in June 2014.
