The National Hurricane Center upgraded the disturbance in the North Atlantic to Tropical Storm Chris late Tuesday afternoon. Chris will pose no threat to land and a limited threat to shipping lanes southeast of Newfoundland over the next few days.
The storm will eventually dissipate over colder waters and get absorbed a larger system later this week.
Elsewhere the Hurricane Center is monitoring a disorganized area of showers and storms in the Northwestern Caribbean. This feature will drift toward the Gulf of Mexico later this week with some very slow development possible, but not likely at this time.
Development or not, this system will have the potential to bring heavy rains to Florida later this week.
