Tropical Storm Chantal has slowly intensified Monday morning and is now packing winds of 45 mph, and continuing to head west-northwestwardtoward the Lesser Antilles at a brisk 25 mph. A slow intensification will occur over the next few days but Chantal will likely never reach hurricane status, due to the quick pace and interaction with the islands. Peak winds will occur mid-week and are believed to make it up to around 70 mph.
After hitting parts of the eastern Caribbean the track will be more northerly, moving the storm along the east coast of Florida. Once it takes the northern route, tropical storm status will quickly diminish and will be downgraded to a tropical depression by the weekend.
