MIAMI (AP) - A tropical storm has formed in the Atlantic Ocean
near the northern Bahamas.
Authorities in the Bahamas issued a tropical storm watch for
Grand Bahama and the Abaco Islands. Tropical Storm Bret isn't
expected to approach the U.S.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center says the storm's center was
located Sunday evening about 100 miles (161 km) northwest of Great
Abaco Island. Its maximum sustained winds were 40 mph (64 kph) and
it was drifting slowly south-southeast at 2 mph (3 kph).
Forecasters expected little movement overnight but said the
Atlantic's second tropical storm of the 2011 hurricane season would
turn to the north or northeast on Monday, with some strengthening
over the next two days.
