The right shoulder of I-10 East near Iowa is now open following a crash involving two 18-wheelers earlier this morning.
According to state police, 27-year-old Aldo Gonzalez of Humble, Texas, rear-ended another 18-wheeler near the intersection of US 165 and I-10. Gonzalez, who was pulled from the wreckage, was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries. A passenger in Gonzalez's rig was also transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the second big rig was not injured.
State troopers say HAZMAT crews are still cleaning up diesel that spilled on the highway. Crews are also working to offload one of the trailers involved in the crash.
Traffic in the area is moving slowly, and drivers in the area should expect delays. Officials say they are still hoping to have the rest of the eastbound lanes opened sometime between now and noon. State police reminds drivers that US 90 is an available detour route.
