State police are heading out in full force, cracking down on seat belt use.
The troopers' new holiday campaign means you can still get a ticket, even if you are wearing a seatbelt.
So far this year, across the state there's been 64 fatal crashes which resulted in 66 people dying.
Trooper Stephen Hammons says the top two factors in most of the crashes are impairment and not wearing a seatbelt.
Troopers will cover eight parishes throughout Acadiana on roads and highways searching for drivers who aren't buckling up.
Trooper Hammons says some drivers try to fool them by not wearing their sealt belt properly which could also cause drivers to get tickets.
"One of the things we see is when people buckle their seat belt prior to getting in the vehicle and when they see law enforcement they place the belt over their shoulder,"said Hammons.
