BASILE, La. (AP) - A Basile man remains in jail after Louisiana state police concluded he was driving at the time of an Aug. 6 wreck.
Eric Bergeaux, 34, was arrested Friday and booked into the Acadia Parish jail on charges including vehicular homicide, obstruction of justice, improper lane usage, speeding, no seatbelt and reckless driving.
Troopers initially believed the driver of the 2009 Chevrolet truck was 42-year-old Joseph Joseph II, who died from injuries after the wreck. Troopers say both Joseph and Bergeaux were thrown from the truck when Bergeaux drove off the road and the truck flipped in a ditch on Louisiana 97.
Trooper Brooks David says he doesn't know if Bergeaux has a lawyer. A news release says a blood sample shows Bergeaux was impaired at the time of the wreck.
