TRIO Talent Search Program Awarding Disadvantaged Students

United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., today announced that the TRIO Talent Search Program has awarded more than $4 million in grants to nine university campuses in Louisiana. The grants will be used to identify and assist more than 9,000 students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education.
"All children deserve the opportunity to pursue their dreams and receive a high quality education, no matter their socio-economic background. These grants from the TRIO program will help students fulfill their dreams by providing them with the information and counseling they need to get into college," Sen. Landrieu said. "These nine TRIO programs in Louisiana that will serve more than 9,000 low-income college students will make sure that our children can access higher education and obtain the skills they need to compete in a 21st century job market."
The TRIO Talent Search Program provides academic, career and financial counseling to low-income students and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to and complete their postsecondary education.
Campuses receiving TRIO Talent Search Program Grants include:
Dillard University in New Orleans, which will receive $346,988
Southeastern University in Hammond, which will receive $609,019
Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, which will receive $452,457
Southern University in New Orleans, which will receive $321,997
Southern University in Shreveport, which will receive $395,592
University of Louisiana in Lafayette, which will receive $476,917
University of Louisiana in Monroe, which will receive $345,483
University of New Orleans, which will receive $835,228
COPE, Inc. in Alexandria, which will receive $230,000
