Trio of Cajuns Named To College Sports Madness Preseason All-SBC Team

LAFAYETTE, La. - named senior defender Grace Howell-Harries, sophomore midfielder Yazmin Montoya and sophomore forward Annika Schmidt to its 2014 Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference First Team as well as selecting Montoya as the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and Howell-Harries as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Montoya, an All-SBC First Team selection a season ago, broke the program's single-season record for goals (13), points (31), shots (86) and shots on goal (38) in her first season playing for the Ragin' Cajuns. Howell-Harries, who was named the league's 2013 Defensive Player of the Year, also garnered All-SBC First Team and NSCAA All-South Region Second Team honors after playing all 1,696 minutes for the squad last season. Schmidt paired with Montoya to form a dangerous offensive duo for Louisiana in 2013. Earning All-SBC Second Team and NSCAA All-South Region Third Team honors, Schmidt finished the season with 23 points and became the fastest player in program history to reach 20 points.

Louisiana is coming off their best season in program history with an 8-7-3 record and a tie for second in the SBC. With a squad returning 17 letterwinners, including nine starters, the expectations are high for the Ragin' Cajuns entering the 2014 season.
Louisiana gets its season started Friday, Aug. 15 when the team welcomes Southern Miss for a 7 p.m. exhibition match at the Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.
