Trio Of Acadiana Products Named to All-Region 23 Team

Four LSU Eunice softball players have been named to the NJCAA All-Region 23 Team following a season that was capped off with the program's second NJCAA National Championship last weekend.
Sophomores Kelsey Hollier (Rayne) and Taylor Simon (Notre Dame), along with freshmen Julienne Broussard (Teurlings) and Brooke Clark, were named to the team following the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.
Hollier finished her Lady Bengal career with a .393 batting average in 2013, driving in 81 RBIs, breaking the LSU Eunice program record for most RBIs in a single season.
She added 20 doubles and five triples, along with 13 home runs, to notch a .434 on-base percentage and a .720 slugging percentage to go with her overall batting average. Hollier finished the season with just eight strikeouts, the fourth-fewest on the team and the least among regular starters.
Simon closed out her Lady Bengal career with a .371 batting average, etching her name in the record books with a program single season record 28 doubles in 2013.
She added a triple and six home runs, tallying a .414 on-base percentage and a .596 slugging percentage, also stealing 20 bases (second-most on the team) as she was the only Lady Bengal to start all 67 games in 2013.
Broussard collected 30 wins inside the circle in her freshman campaign, striking out 205 batters to set LSU Eunice program records in both categories. She pitched 208.0 innings in 2013, holding opponents to just 46 runs scored (41 earned) while finishing with a 1.77 ERA.
Clark started 65 games as a freshman for the Lady Bengals, finishing her first season with a team-high .468 batting average with 23 doubles, two triples and eight home runs (including five in the Region 23 Tournament).
She ended 2013 with a .518 on-base percentage and a .739 slugging percentage as well.
As a team, the Lady Bengals final record of 62-5 set a school-high for most victories in a season for any sport, while their 27-game winning streak also set a new benchmark for future teams.
LSU Eunice also finished with new program highs in several team categories, including doubles (153), triples (17), RBIs (432), and runs scored (525), while their team batting average of .365 tied the team record as well.
