OBERLIN, La. (AP) - The trial of an Oberlin man accused of fatally stabbing his estranged wife and slitting her throat during an argument in June is scheduled to begin Feb. 24.
The American Press reports 45-year-old Joseph Eric Vercher is charged with second-degree murder in the June 29 slaying of 34-year-old Rachel Denise Lambert Vercher.
Joseph Vercher was initially arrested for manslaughter, but the charge was upgraded to second-degree murder by a grand jury in August.
If convicted of second-degree murder, he faces life in prison without parole.
He remains in jail on a $250,000 bond awaiting trial.
