Trial Set For Mother Accused In Child Car Death

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A 32-year-old woman accused of leaving her
infant daughter in a running car with the heater on for five hours
in 2008 is fit to stand trial.
State District Judge Thomas Duplantier on Thursday said that
doctors found Natalie Thornton capable of standing trial for
second-degree murder.
A grand jury indicted Thornton in August 2008 for the death of
her daughter, Arielle George.
Thornton pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
On May 11, 2008, Mother's Day, Thornton allegedly left her
daughter in a running car with the heater on.
Thornton allegedly told police that she returned to the car five
hours later to find her daughter unresponsive.
The Advertiser reports the coroner's office said the cause of
death was hyperthermia.
