DERIDDER, La. (AP) Officials have rescheduled Jeffery Paul Denby's first-degree murder trail to May 17 in state court in DeRidder.
The trial had been slated to begin Jan. 19.
Denby pleaded not guilty in August 2009.
Authorities say the 24-year-old Denby was arrested in the beating death of 18-month-old John Thomas Anthony left in his care in June 2009.
Beauregard Parish Sheriff Ricky Moses told the American Press last year that Denby beat the toddler when the child "tipped over" a bassinet. He said the child was taken to the emergency room after he was found in bed unresponsive and later died in a Lake Charles hospital.
The toddler's mother, Holly A. Brewer, faces a charge of accessory after the fact to second-degree cruelty.
