Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certificates were recently presented to 14 graduates of the 54th POST basic law enforcement session instructed and held by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Regional Training Academy.
The 14 week session prepares cadets to meet the challenges faced by today's law enforcement officers by teaching and training to high standards of professionalism in policing.
Under the instruction of Academy Director Captain Brian P. Charpentier and Assistant Director Captain Joe Clements, the 14 cadets underwent rigorous law enforcement training completing extensive curriculum and certification programs. Studies and training include criminal and traffic law, ethics and standards of conduct, first aid and CPR, crisis intervention, crime prevention, defensive tactics, firearms training, and physical conditioning. Cadets are also taught the value of respect, selfless service, and integrity.
The 3 and ½ months of training culminated with the administration of the POST test. The 14 cadets successfully completed the basic training academy and passed the POST test allowing them to graduate with the new certifications.
