For a few hundred families, the holidays became a bit brighter Sunday all thanks to the "Toys for Tots" campaign.
"Nothing at Christmas is not the best thing in the world, so as you know the Marines defend our country's freedom and we come here now and we also defend the country's youth. We team up and this is something we look forward to each and every year" says Charles Norman.
That something is the annual toys for tots donation drive. More than 300 hundred people packed into Anderson Middle School in New Iberia to receive packages for their children. People like Pauline Antoine who says she is thankful that others are so giving... "A lot of people really need the help, and especially me because i have a lot of kids and i'm a single mother...so i really do appreciate it."
More than 900 toys lined the floor of the gymnasium and families that we spoke with say that the best part about toys for tots is their kids reaction on Christmas day."
"They really are surprised and it's just amazing to see them really enjoy christmas because that's what its really for...the kids. I'm just glad that they helped me with that" says Pauline Antoine.
And it's also joyous for the volunteers, those like Charles Norman who says he can relate to the families during the holiday season. "It's heart warming...I have four children of my own. There were times when we were where some of these people are today and the public stepped up and helped us. This is just my way of saying thank you for the help that we got, and to be able to come out and serve the community as we did."
