Four town of Independence maintenance workers have been arrested following an investigation into allegations of employees misusing fuel cards.
The Advocate reports 54-year-old Reginald Jefferson, 55-year-old Jerome Cook, 55-year-old Charles Garafola and 49-year-old John Henson were booked Tuesday with unauthorized use of an access card.
Police Chief Frank Edwards III said the total cost to the town for the alleged fuel card abuse was approximately $1,000.
Henson also was booked on one count of theft under $500 for allegedly giving away four tires from a town-owned vehicle slated for auction as surplus.
It was unclear whether the workers have attorneys.
