New Iberia, La.---- The Tour du Teche III commemorative poster will be displayed at Teche Federal Bank in New Iberia (1120 Jefferson Terrace Blvd.) from July 25 - August 1, 2012. Artist Michelle Fontenot unveiled her painting on July 11th at the bank's Breaux Bridge branch.
"The poster is the second poster commemorating the Tour du Teche commissioned by the TECHE Project," said Nicole Patin, Tour du Teche executive director. "Michelle Fontenot created a beautiful piece of work to highlight the excitement surrounding our event and to provide necessary funds to carry out the TECHE Project mission. Blake Couvillion [president of the TECHE Project and director of Cajuns for Bayou Teche] and I were very excited to work with her and are very happy with the end result."
The artwork is currently exhibited at the bank's Opelousas branch (428 E. Landry St., Opelousas, LA 70570). After a week's stay in New Iberia, it will move to Franklin (August 1 - 8), Bayou Vista (August 8 - 15), and Morgan City (August 15 - 22).
"The Iberia Parish Convention & Visitors Bureau is a member of the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area Bayou Teche Corridor, a marketing consortium promoting recreation on the bayou and its environs in the parishes of St. Landry, St. Martin, Iberia and St. Mary," said Fran Thibodeaux, Iberia Parish Convention & Visitors Bureau executive director. "The poster is an excellent marketing tool to promote preservation efforts of the bayou."
Tour du Teche, a 135-mile three-day, three-stage canoe and kayak race on Bayou Teche, will be held on October 5 - 7, 2012. In its third year, its goal is to promote outdoor recreation along the Bayou Teche Corridor. The poster costs $25. Proceeds will benefit the TECHE Project and Cajuns for Bayou Teche in their effort to clean up, improve, and educate on Bayou Teche. Order forms for the poster are available on both Tour du Teche (www.tourduteche.com) and TECHE Project (www.techeproject.com) websites.
