PORT ALLEN, La. (AP) - A former Port Allen police officer has been charged with choking a suspect during a traffic stop.
The Advocate reports a West Baton Rouge Parish grand jury indicted Jasmione Clark Tuesday on charges of second-degree battery and malfeasance for the Sept. 24 incident that prosecutors said left Port Allen resident Brandon Whaley bloody and unconscious.
Prosecutor Scotty Chabert says the 24-year-old Clark allegedly put Whaley in a choke hold until blood vessels near the man's eyes ruptured.
Clark declined to comment on Tuesday, but had denied the choking incident in a phone interview last week with The Advocate.
Clark, who was with the Police Department since August 2009, resigned late last month a few hours before the city council was set to consider dismissing him from the police force.
