Today's Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival Schedule

New Iberia's 70th annual Sugarcane celebration promises to be even sweeter than last year's. This year has five days of events, music, art, games and more.

The festival runs from Sept. 21-25, with the majority of events taking place at Cyr-Gates Community Center and New Iberia City Park. All events free unless otherwise noted.

Friday, Sept. 23
Free admission
8 a.m. - Sugar Cane Grower's Day, community encouraged to dress in farmer's attire
8 a.m. - 4H Sugar Cookery Contest Registration
10 a.m. - Mass and Blessing of the Crop
11 a.m. - 4H Sugar Cookery Contest Awards presented to winners
11:30 a.m. - Judging of Best Decorated Storefronts and Residences
Noon to 11 p.m. - Mitchell Brothers' Shows, Kids Day from noon to 5 p.m., rides $1
2 p.m. - Sugar Cane Exhibit opens for public viewing
2 to 4 p.m. - Sugar Artistry Exhibit/Tasting
2 p.m. - Art Show
3 p.m. - Photography Show opens for public viewing
6:30 p.m. - 30th Annual Boat Parade
7 p.m. to midnight - Fais-do-do with music by Andy Smith Band and Category 6
7:15 p.m. - Fireworks
8:15 p.m. - Sugar Harvest Celebration
Saturday, Sept. 24
8 to 9 a.m. - Registration for Bayou Girl Scouts Bake Off
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. - La. Sugar Cane Festival Art Show
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Garden/Flower Show
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Silver Cup Sugar Cane Winner Exhibit
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Guar Artistry Exhibit/Tasting
9:30 a.m. - Reception honoring Parish Queens
9:30 a.m. - Vintage cars roll down Main Street
10 a.m. - Children's Parade on Main Street.
Noon to 11 p.m. - Mitchell Brothers' Shows
12:30 p.m. - Luncheon honoring Queen Sugar 69th, $18 per person
1:30 p.m. - Winners announced for Bayou Girl Scouts Bake-Off
7 p.m. to midnight - 70 years of dancing in the street with music by Side Show and Rockin' Dopsie Jr.
8:15 p.m. - Coronation of Queen Sugar 70th, $5 admission for adults, $2 for children
9:30 p.m. - Coronation Reception, $18 admission per person, must be 18 and older
