The Cajundome Coverntion Center was the site of the Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center and KATC's second annual "Living Right Health Expo" today. The event provided a variety of different health screenings and information to help you get healthy. Over 500 people turned for a day of learning and fun.
"We're focused on health, overall, health. We have lots of screenings to see where you are. We're focused on nutrition today so you can make some better, healthy habits with eating," said Elisabeth Arnold, Public Relations for Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
In addition, she said there were informational booths on many topics like smoking and body mass index to help people lose weight.
Chef Nino of Rouses Supermarket explains that the first step in losing weight is to change eating habits.
"Instead of white rice, brown rice, instead of white bread, brown bread, the whiter the bread the sooner you're dead," said Chef Nino of Rouses.
He also recommends switching to olive oil over butter and sea salt over traditional salt.
But just eating healthy won't do much and exercise is key as well. To make sure an injury doesn't set you back, Phyiscal Therapist Renee Bujol gave some tips.
"Make sure you have proper footwear. If you have any joint pain; especially in your feet, knees, your hips, your back, get that checked out before you can go into rigorous exercise," said Bujol.
This expo wasn't just for adults.
"We learned that there's a lot of clinics and nurses and we learned how to zumba dance," Kennedy Simpson said.
It was certainly a day of healthy living and healthy learning.
