Three Vehicle Crash Claims One Life

One person is dead after a three vehicle crash on US Highway 190 west of Basile. Troopers say at 7:54 pm Saturday, 26-year-old Dwayne Griffin of Kinder was driving a 2004 Chevrolet truck west on US Highway 190. Troopers say for reasons still under investigation, Griffin crossed the centerline and struck a 2008 Dodge truck, driven by 32-year-old Rogelio Rico of Elton. After striking Rico's vehicle, Griffin's vehicle struck a 2003 Lincoln SUV driven by 23-year-old Isidro Mendoza of Ville Platte.
Griffin was unrestrained and was transported to a local hospital. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, Griffin succumbed to his injuries. Rico, a passenger in his vehicle, and Mendoza were all restrained and sustained minor injuries.
It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash; however, toxicology samples have been obtained and will be submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
