Police report three juveniles were involved in an ATV accident at the intersection of Catahoula Highway and Decoux Road in St. Martin Parish around 5:30 pm Tuesday. Police said the teenagers were driving the ATV on the highway and crashed into a ditch. Witnesses reported that the driver was thrown from the ATV. Air-Med did respond to the scene and flew the driver to Lafayette General Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The other two passengers were taken to local hospitals.
Nearby residents said they hope the teens are alright. Resident Kimberly Borque lives across the street from where the accident happened, and said she has seen ATV's in the area but never on the road.
"Well we had heard four wheelers in the backyard before and we just saw ambulances and the cops here," said Borque. "I mean this is a small community, everybody's close, you just worry about what happened."
Louisiana State Police and St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office responded to the accident. The conditions of the victims are not known at this time.
