Three teenagers are behind bars after stealing a car, hitting another vehicle in the stolen car, and fleeing the scene in Opelousas. Opelousas Police say they received a call around 12:53 this afternoon from a frantic elderly female driver, advising that her vehicle was struck from behind by a red truck that fled the scele. Police say the suspect's vehicle was a small red Nissan pickup truck. Earlier this morning the truck was reported stolen.
At 12:57 today, Opelousas Police Chief Perry Gallow saw the pickup traveling north on Tunica Drive towards Natchez. When Chief Gallow tried to stop the vehicle, the driver accelerated, disregarding a stop sign at the intersection of Natchez and Attakapa. Chief Gallow continued following the pickup until he forced the truck to stop on Magnolia Street. At that time, the three people in the car ran away from the scene. Chief Gallow captured one of the people in the pickup, 18 year old Jaylon Fields Johnson.
Patrol, Motorcycle, and K-9 units surrounded the area and found the other two suspects around 1:40 today. The other suspects were identified as the driver of the pickup, 17 year old John Tyler, and a 15 year old juvenile. All three suspects are from Opelousas.
