Gonzales LA, State Fire Marshal H. Butch Browning, announced today that his office arrested three juveniles in connection with a fire that was set to a vacant mobile home in Gonzales and spread to another occupied residence.
The Gonzales Fire Department responded to a reported trailer fire located at 8544 S. St. Landry Rd. Lot 35 on October 16, 2010 at approx. 14:09hrs. Upon their arrival they quickly extinguished a burning mobile home that had begun to spread to an adjacent residence. Firefighters were able to control the fire and save the threatened structure. With evidence that this fire was suspicious the State Fire Marshal's Office was notified.
Fire Marshal Investigators determined that this fire was intentionally set and chemical accelerants were used to start this fire. After a fire scene examination and interviewing of witnesses three juveniles were charged with Simple Arson and released to the custody of their parents. All three are under the age of seventeen years and their names are being protected.
Fire Marshal Browning expressed concern over this incident saying, "We must educate children that crimes such as this endangers the lives of the public and First Responders, we will be working with the District Attorney to ensure that these children receive assistance with changing this fire setting behavior". Simple Arson invokes a maximum penalty of fifteen thousand dollars and fifteen years in prison.
