Three oyster harvesting areas east of the Mississippi River are now reopen

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Department of Health and
Hospitals reopens three oyster harvesting areas east of the
Mississippi River, including Lake Borgne (born) in Orleans Parish.
Secretary Alan Levine says areas will open a half-hour before
sunrise Saturday.
He says a specialist with the federal Food and Drug
Administration found that oil never got into the three areas.
They include two areas closed April 30, ten days after the
Deepwater Horizon drilling rig caught fire, and a third closed
since July 7.
The areas first closed, known as Areas 4 and 6, are in St.
Bernard and Plaquemines parishes. Area 1, in Lake Borgne, was
closed in July.
Friday's announcement came less than 12 hours after commercial
fishermen were allowed back in some Louisiana waters east of the
Mississippi River.
