ATLANTA - Brooklyn Arceneaux scored 19 points to lead three players in double figures and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team claimed its third consecutive victory as it rallied past Georgia State, 67-63, in a Sun Belt Conference game on Saturday at GSU Arena.
Kia Wilridge added 13 points and Jaylyn Gordon 11 as Louisiana (13-13, 6-9 SBC) moved past ULM and South Alabama into seventh-place in the Sun Belt Conference standings.
"We defended the ball very well and had a great game plan against a good team in Georgia State," head coach Garry Broadhead said. "We started out slow offensively and couldn't get into what we wanted. I thought our defense did a great job of containing them and forcing some turnovers."
After a bucket by Wilridge to open the game, GSU (12-14, 8-6 SBC) scored the next 12 points that was capped by a jumper by Morgan Jackson with 14:57 remaining in the first half.
Robbie Brown opened a 15-4 run for the Cajuns as she buried a 3-pointer from the top of the key before a pair of buckets by Arceneaux sandwiched around a 3-pointer from Sylvana Okde tied the game at 12-12.
After the Panthers took a 16-12 lead on a layup by Maryan Dogo, the Cajuns took their first lead since Wilridge's opening bucket when Gordan drained a 3-pointer and Wilridge hit a jumper for a 17-16 lead.
Wilridge gave the Cajuns the lead for good, 20-19, when she made the first of two free throws with 6:45 remaining in the first half. The Cajuns would push their lead to 27-19 as Gordon converted on a three-point play, Arceneaux scored on a layup and Wilridge followed with a layup with 4:25 left in the first half.
Kendra Long led GSU with 18 points with Alisa Andrews adding 10. Brittany Logan added nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds to lead the Panthers.
Louisiana will return to action on Sunday, March 2 when it closes hosts South Alabama in a 5:15 p.m. contest
