Three children are recovering tonight after a carjacking in Abbeville. Police say it all started with a domestic violence call in the 800 block of North East Street. Terrance Mouton was accused of several acts of domestic battery on his wife. When police arrived, they say Mouton fled on foot to the Valero Gas Station. He then allegedly jumped into a Chevy GMC Sierra that had three small children inside of it.
Officers say they saw him run a red light and realized quickly what happened after people came running out of the gas station. Police say Mouton was traveling a high rate of speed on Highway 167, when for an unknown reason, he went off the road and hit a tree.
Police say he then tried to carjack another vehicle, demanding the person bring him to Maurice. Abbeville Police arrested him inside that vehicle at the scene of the first crash. Mouton is said to be suffering from moderate injuries.
The three children are all expected to be okay. One child is suffering from two broken legs, which police say is the worst of the injuries.
Mouton is facing charges of domestic abuse battery by strangulation, 2nd degree kidnapping, aggravated assault, battery of a police officer, resisting an officer with force or violence, 2 counts of carjacking, 3 counts of aggravated kidnapping, red light violation, and reckless violation. He also had an outstanding warrant for domestic abuse battery by strangulation.
