The Vermilion / Municipal Narcotics Task Force recently made the following drug related arrests stemming from ongoing narcotics investigations:
-Agents have received several complaints of suspected drug deals taking place at a local apartment complex. An investigation was opened to ascertain the validity of the complaints and act on them appropriately. Agents were able to set up surveillance and began an investigation. During the evening hours agents recognized a known drug dealer, who they have arrested on several occasions, arrive at the apartments and honk his horn. Upon agents approaching the person they noticed him place what looked to be crack cocaine in his mouth, but agents were able to retrieve the crack cocaine. The suspect was identified as Roderick Willis. Willis was transported to the Task force office for questioning as agents set up surveillance once again. A short time later agents recognized another male suspect arrive at the complex. As agents approached the suspect known to them as Casley Mire, he immediately attempted to discard crack cocaine by throwing it. Agents retrieved the drugs and took Mire into custody. Mire was also brought to the Task Force building for questioning. Casley Mire (dob 7-22-60) and Roderick Willis (dob5-5-77) both of Abbeville were both booked on charges for possession with the intent to distribute cocaine. No bond has been set on Mire at this time. Willis' bond was set at $5,000. Other arrests are expected in this investigation.

-In other action, agents responded to 417 Marmont St Abbeville armed with a search warrant after receiving information that illegal narcotic activity was occurring in the said residence. Upon executing the warrant it was noticed that two male suspects and two female suspects were inside. One of the male and one female parties were behind locked doors causing agents to make a forced entry. After mirandizing all parties agents ascertained that the female locked in the room was a juvenile while the male suspect was 19 years of age. Agents located several hand rolled cigarettes believed to contain marijuana, several items of paraphernalia, and a larger bag of suspected marijuana. Mr. Lawrence Wilson (dob 5-24-54) of Abbeville was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Total bond has not been set at this time. The second suspect, Jarred Clement (dob 11-16-92) who was arrested just one day before this incident for other drug related offense, but bonded out of jail, was charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile, and indecent behavior with a juvenile. Total bond has yet to be set.

Sheriff Mike Couvillon would like to thank the following persons for their effort in assisting with Task Force personnel. Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza, Kaplan Mayor Kirk Champagne, Abbeville Chief of Police Tony Hardy and Kaplan Chief Boyd Adams "I realize times are financially tough all over, but the Mayors and Chiefs of these cities are committed to finding the funds to help the Task Force combat the illicit drugs problem that ruins our communities. The people of Vermilion and our children are the benefactors of these city leaders' great efforts. It is my hope that in the near future other towns and cities in the parish of Vermilion will be able to assist in the continuing fight against illicit drugs."
